Insurance Attorney Makes Good, Reigns Supreme in Vermont
It is an over-generalization, but experience suggests that the attorneys who get those juicy judicial appointments are most likely to come out of law enforcement (former attorneys general, district attorneys, prosecutors and the like) or from the ranks of the high-profile Plaintiffs' Bar (perhaps because those successful trial lawyers can best afford to make attention-getting contributions to the campaigns of those who will have the Power of Appointment). While it is not an unheard of phenomenon, still it makes this insurance attorney's heart soar to read of Paul Rieber, newly elevated Chief Justice of Vermont:
Reiber -- who's in his mid-50s and lives in Chittenden -- was in private law practice in Rutland until last year. Much of his work was in defending insurance companies.
